True Poker is one of our favorite
poker rooms when it comes to playing Texas Hold'em.
There's plenty of open tables, lots of players,
and arguably the best looking online poker software
on the 'net. There's a wide variety of characters,
each with their own voices and animations, gestures,
and a lot of other fun little attention to detail.
Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot of diversity
in the poker types available. True
Poker offers only Texas Hold'em, Omaha, and
Omaha Hi-Lo - no stud games are currently available.
Still, if Hold'em is your game, you really should
try True Poker out. Get the larger, 'full' download
for the best gaming experience. |

True
Poker
is a very unique offering which aims to be true to its name.
Its goal is to simulate the experience of playing real poker.
If you like rich, 3D visuals, you'll find that True Poker is
the place for you. Player traffic is also a strong point at
True Poker. The flip side of the beautiful graphics is a slower
download. Keep reading for the detailed lowdown on all of that
and more.

True
Poker Graphics
Graphics:True
Poker
has invested a considerable amount of time and money in
creating as realistic a poker environment as possible. When
you sign up at True Poker, you're given a choice
of an "avatar," or 3D character. You'll have a wide
range of choices. You can be a very suave-looking James Bond
or a gruff cowboy, not to mention a grungy rock ?n roll girl.
In addition to the rich and textured characters, True Poker
has added motion to the game. When you place a bet, you'll see
your player push money into the pot, and every time you look
at your cards, your player will actually pick them up, and other
players at the table will see you do this. Some people think
that this last feature adds an element of body-language bluffing
to the game.
Download: The downside of the stunning True
Poker graphics is the download required to get them. If
you're on a dial-up modem, you may want to look elsewhere, though
high-speed connections like Cable or DSL won't have much of
a problem.
True Poker does offer a smaller version
of its software for modems, but the download is still on the
long side. In addition, after you download True
Poker you'll need to restart your computer, which is an
inconvenience that other poker rooms don't require.
Player traffic and betting limits: At True Poker,
player traffic is high, and you won't have trouble finding a
game when you want one. Betting limits, however, are a bit high,
with games starting at $1/$2 minimum. If this is a bit steep
for you (and it is for many people), we'd recommend taking a
look at Pacific Poker, where games start as low as 5¢/10¢.
If, however, higher limits don't bother you, then True
Poker is a great choice. You can find $100 no-limit tables,
plus a busy schedule of tournaments at a wide range of limits,
buy-ins, and purses.
Additional features:True Poker offers some
cool additional features. First, you can choose between two
servers when you log in, one that offers both real and play
money tables and the other that offers strictly play money tables.
Second, you can also jump into any game-real or play money-as
a spectator at any time. Whether you want to scope opponents
or simply watch the action at high-limit tables, you're free
to do so. Third, True Poker provides you with an e-notebook
that allows you to jot down notes on your opponents. You can
click on any player sitting at your table, and then write yourself
a note, or check a box to classify him/her as a check-raiser,
chaser, bluffer, etc. It's a great way to remember players and
their styles over a long period of time.
Overall,
then, we recommend True
Poker highly, but only if you like fancy graphics
and if you've got a high-speed connection that can handle the
download.
